Manual Therapy for the Jaw, Upper Cervical and Anterior Neck Complex

May 21, 2019

Presenters: Dave Campbell, LMT

Description:
The structures of the TMJ, upper cervical spine and anterior neck are intimately related during such activities as chewing, swallowing, speaking, and yawning. In concert with the teeth, tongue and muscles of facial expression, a coordinated dance of “contact improv” is at play involving synchronized, sequential and reciprocal actions. Operating behind the scenes are the ever-present effects of thoughts and emotions.

This presentation will review the anatomy and function of this area and explore gentle manual techniques to release muscular and fascial restriction, and to enhance somatic awareness to help counter the chronic tension that often inhabits this area.
