About the Instructor: Marybeth has served as an expert witness in civil and criminal cases involving massage therapists, and has worked for the Department of Health on cases in helping to determine the legitimacy of complaints brought against massage therapists. She was a member of the State Massage Examining and Regulatory Board from 1983-2001. Marybeth has been a full- time massage therapist in Washington since 1985.
About the Class: In Washington State approximately 14,000 complaints against health care providers are submitted to the Department of Health every year. Unfortunately, massage therapy is one of the groups most complained about. Not only do providers have to defend themselves when these complaints occur but these same complaints also drive increases in rules and regulations. The regulations around massage in Washington State have been changing on an almost yearly basissince 2017.
This 4hr. ethics class intends to inform and empower you to avoid complaints against your license by not only updating you on new rules and regulations but by also identifying the most common missteps that may put you in the crosshairs of an investigation that may range from regulatory to criminal in nature.
