Palpating the “Big 5”: Fascial Architecture of the Abdomen and Pelvis

Presenter: Marty Ryan LMT (3 hours, hands on)

About the Class: "Big 5" refers to the parietal peritoneum, greater omentum, mesocolon, mesentery, and the broad ligament.

These visceral connective tissue structures support, protect, and help supply the abdomino-pelvic viscera with blood, lymph, and nerves. This 3 hour course will bring these structures forward in a "big picture" and layer-by-layer way. Wee will also practice step by step palpation techniques to find these tissues in the belly.

About the Presenter: Marty’s massage therapy practice focuses on digestive and reproductive system optimization + post abdomino-pelvic surgery rehab. Marty is in private practice in Seattle WA, where he also mentors manual therapists, and outreaches to the community of health care providers about the therapeutic benefits of abdominal bodywork.

Marty has taught belly massage and palpatory anatomy seminars in the US and internationally since 2007. He is the director of Love Your Guts Seminars, a bodywork education company dedicated to bringing the world of the abdomen and viscera into a whole new light. Marty also served on the faculty of the Seattle Massage School and the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine + has assisted Gil Hedley and Leon Chaitow in their respective trainings.
